South Downs Photographic

- an SCPF affiliated Society

Home

Welcome to the South Downs Photographic Society. Founded in 2021, and born out of lockdown, we are a small group based in Midhurst – the heart of the South Downs – in West Sussex.

– We are a not-for-profit Society, founded by people who love photography. Most importantly, we believe photography should be fun!

Passionate about photography and the visual arts in general we are as likely to be out social snapping as attending exhibitions (we don’t take ourselves too seriously, can you tell?) or hosting a photographic-based film night… as well as the more usual camera club offerings.

We are affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB) through membership of the Southern Counties Photographic Federation (SCPF) which also connects us to the international body: Federation Internationale de l’Art Photographique (FIAP) and its over 1 million individual photographers worldwide.

Some of our members have previously exhibited (and sold) their work at mixed-media exhibitions in the Oxmarket Gallery, Chichester and we see an annual event similar to this as this a core part of our programme. Participation is optional, of course.

Whether you are new to photography and would like to learn in a friendly environment; an old hand with all the kit; a happy-snapper who loves their smartphone photography; someone who uses photographs as inspiration for painting oils, water-colour or acrylics; wants to experiment with different types of photography such as cyanotype or film; or, someone who wants to explore formal qualifications such as RPS (Royal Photographic Society) or PAGB (Photographic Alliance of Great Britain) and maybe enter a Salon or two there will be something for you in our Society.

Bring your interests, skills and enthusiasm along to enrich our collective experiences: we are a photographer’s hub!
