Winter incorporates the dark months of December, January and February. The upside of short days means reasonably-timed sunrises and the potential for glittery gorgeous hoar-frosts, and, cosy evenings in, editing images or watching photography-related films and talks. Not forgetting Bonfire night, Christmas, Diwali, Hanukkah and Yule with ceremonies that provide some lovely opportunities: what could be better for photographers than a festival of light?
We have our highest concentration of SCPF-judged photographic competitions this season too: one a month! This season there is the modern classic Cliche Cup, coinciding with our Christmas Social, Flora – so we can revisit the beautiful gardens and flowers from earlier in the year, and, a Panel competition – a challenge to put together a series of images and perhaps a panel that might form a basis for a Royal Photographic Society qualification if you fancy that challenge.
